Small Tweaks, Big Impact: Tips to Make Your Indeed Profile Shine

Get matched with better job opportunities with these three quick updates to your Indeed profile.

Nurses do so much more than provide care. We listen, support, and advocate for our patients. While we’re being recognized during National Nurses Week it’s a good reminder to make sure we’re also caring for ourselves, including our career goals.

If the jobs landing in your inbox don’t match what you’re looking for, it might be time for a profile refresh.

That’s why keeping your Indeed profile updated can help make your job search more efficient. Below, we’ll share a few simple tweaks you can make today to make your profile work for you.

Why update your Indeed profile?

Updating your Indeed profile helps employers see your qualifications and helps Indeed send you jobs that match your skills, experience, and preferences. Plus, when you find a job you like, you can apply easily using your profile.

Your profile includes your resume, work history, certifications, and job interests. Employers can see some details like your name and skills, but not private information like your phone number, email, or salary requirements, although it’s still important to include those details to get connected with the right opportunities. And, of course, you can always change your profile settings whenever you want.

We’ve rounded up three easy ways to update your Indeed profile and improve your chances of getting better job matches.

1. Highlight your qualifications

First, be sure your basic information is filled out. That includes your name, location, and phone number. Upload your resume, as this helps Indeed pull information automatically and saves you time. If you don’t have a resume ready, you can build one directly on Indeed.

The more complete your profile is, the more likely you are to get matched with jobs that align with what you’re looking for. Include the following:

  • Qualifications: Include your work experience, licenses, and certifications. List past roles, job titles, specialty, and responsibilities. Mention any awards and honors received.
  • Education: Add your nursing degree and any additional academic achievements.
  • Skills: Technical skills like IV insertion, wound care, and EHR systems are important, but don’t forget about soft skills. Adaptability, compassion, and clear communication are qualities employers look for in nurses.
  • Languages spoken: If you speak multiple languages, including this can open up additional opportunities with diverse patient populations.

These details help Indeed get your resume in front of more hiring managers.

2. Set your job preferences

This section tells Indeed what types of roles you’re interested in and helps filter out positions that don’t align with your career goals.

Start by selecting your desired job titles. Then specify your preferred job type (full-time, part-time, contract, or per diem), and choose your ideal shifts.

You can also set preferences for location, commute time, remote or hybrid options, and even indicate if you’re open to relocating. Indeed uses these settings to show you positions that fit your work-life requirements.

Setting your minimum salary might seem unnecessary, but it’s a smart move. Employers won’t see this information, but Indeed uses it to connect you with roles that match your pay expectations. Adding a compensation range helps you focus on opportunities that recognize your skills, experience, and the value you bring to healthcare.

3. Let employers connect with you

Turning on the “Employers can find you on Indeed” setting makes you discoverable to companies looking for candidates with your qualifications. This tweak can open the door to more job opportunities, even when you’re not actively applying.

When this option is turned on, recruiters and hiring managers contact you on Indeed. It’s an easy way to stay on a potential employer’s radar without doing extra work.

If you prefer to stay in control of who contacts you, you can select “Employers can’t find you on Indeed” instead. With this setting, recruiters can only reach out if you’ve applied to their job posting.

Another helpful setting is “Ready to work.” Turning this feature on lets employers know you’re available to begin working right away. Like searchable mode, it’s a small tweak that can help you stand out, especially when hiring managers are trying to fill a role quickly.

Make your job search work for you

Sifting through job listings takes time. But a few quick updates to your Indeed profile, qualifications, job preferences, and visibility settings can help you start seeing job options that match what you want.

Even if you’re not actively looking, an updated profile keeps your options open, letting employers find you.

Indeed offers more than job listings for healthcare workers. Indeed’s Careers in Care hub is a dedicated space for healthcare professionals, providing resume tools, career resources, and job opportunities across various settings.

Indeed also advocates for healthcare professionals by supporting legislation that addresses the nursing shortage and improves mental health resources for healthcare workers. Take a moment to check out Careers in Care, and get the support you need wherever you are in your career.
